Welcome to super FLORENCE jam.
super FLORENCE jam formed in 2005, born out of impromptu jam sessions and a mutual affection for hard rock.
Their early demos have sold thousands whilst busking on the streets of Sydney and their musical interplay and diversity have earnt them a reputation as one of Sydney's tightest and foremost jam bands.
In 2008, sFj were founding members of The Bird's Robe Collective, an organisation dedicated to the growth and promotion of Sydney's progressive and experimental music scene and played a leading role in the establishment and success of Sydney's first Progfest.
After much anticipation, the band recorded their debut EP in 2009 with producer Clayton Segelov (The Scare, Bridezilla) at the Brain Studios in Sydney.
They followed this with their first national tour, playing 15 dates across the country.
Released to positive reviews, the EP tracks all individually hit the top 5 of Triple J radio's Unearthed charts with two songs ('Ten Years' and 'The Circle') topping the charts in consecutive weeks.
The band continues to have a unique and varied style all of their own - and to this end they have teamed up with The Local Scene to make their early demos, experimental and improvised material available for free.
Fans familiar with sFj's busking sets and their jam-based and experimental-material will enjoy tracks such as 'Blues in G', 'Traffic Hazard / Recital Blues', 'A Spanish Doctor' and the infamous 'MOGAR' as well as early demos of tracks such as 'Ghetto Project Fabulous' and 'The Circle Above'. As well, there are impromptu jams recorded at 2am at Sydney's SAE Studios including 'Ice Vampires' and 'Take the Pen'. The much lauded epic 20-minute plus live recording of 'Bear Hat' is soon to be included with this collection (when we can fit it!)
The band remains committed to continuing to post the results of their experimentation for their fans here and adding value for fans who support sFj at live shows and through their official releases.
Since forming, sFj have earnt a reputation for an electric and enthralling live show, sporting innovative original rock. They have played with the likes of Shihad, British India, Dallas Crane, Bertie Blackman, Philadelphia Grand Jury, 28 Days, Gun Street Girls and Airbourne and performed to packed venues including the Gaelic Theatre, the Metro Theatre, Annandale Hotel, The Hi Fi and Manning Bar.
"A musical travelogue of madness" - Rory McCartney, BMA Magazine
"If you haven’t seen this band live on the big stage, go do it." – Krystal Brinkley, Music Feeds
"Double neck basses, wailing vocals and dirty, hard grooves produce the audacious combination that is the super FLORENCE jam. The nearly full crowd in The Hi-Fi early are treated to energy pouring off the first support act. If only they had more time surely they would come close to upstaging tonight’s main event." - Fasterlouder. com.au (review of British India support)
Thank you for your support - we hope you enjoy the music.
